Undergraduate Overview

American Culture Studies (AmCS) is a multidisciplinary program in Arts & Sciences that offers a major and a minor. Recognizing that America is a culture of cultures, our approach is inclusive, emphasizing the enormous diversity of American society. As a program, AmCS coordinates offerings across disciplines and departments. Students are required to have another major so that their individual curricular plans provide a broader approach to the study of America through multiple disciplines. Through general cross-listed courses, AmCS-approved multidisciplinary courses, and engaged study, students expand their critical abilities to study the many aspects of American culture. Each student works with an AmCS advisor to develop a curricular pathway that complements his or her academic and career plans.

Students with transnational interests may choose to study American culture through an ethnic studies approach. Following the merger of AmCS and Social Thought & Analysis, students should be aware of the expanded opportunities to study culture through a social sciences approach.

All interested students should contact our program staff to learn more about the program or to set up an appointment with an AMCS advisor. Call 314-935-5216 or email acsp@wustl.edu.
