Please include [M4111] in the subject line of any email message that pertains to this course. This is particularly important if you send the email from a yahoo or hotmail account instead of a cec or artsci account. It will help avoid accidental deletion of your still unread message.

2. Grading Information

There will be two class exams, E1 (T, 2 October) and E2 (R, November 6) and a final exam F, (17 December 6-8PM) each out of 100. There will also be assigned homework, which at the end of the semester, when all the homework is totalled, will generate a number HW out of 20. A numerical score S out of 100 will then be calculated as follows:

S = 0.2*(E1 + E2) + 0.4*F + HW

A letter grade will then be determined according to the table:
Numerical Range Letter Grade
[80,100] A
[65,80) B
[50-65) C
[40-50) D
[0,40) F

It is unlikely that a need for "upward curving" will arise. If the grade distribution is significantly lower than usual, then "curving" will be considered.

3. Text

Analysis in Euclidean Space, Kenneth Hoffman

The intention is to cover the first five chapters. If time permits, then we will continue with Chapter 6.
