I am a senior working toward a double major in Women and Gender Studies and English. I was drawn to Women and Gender Studies because I've always wanted to learn about issues of social justice and how people work to make change. I'm lucky that I found Women's Studies because it has forced me to think about gender both in a larger context and in my daily life and it has made me want to keep learning and to teach others.

Outside of class, I am Co-President of the Committee Organized for Rape Education. We are a peer education group that works to create a dialogue on campus and in the community about issues related to sexual assault and gender violence. My experience with this group has sparked my passion for studying violence against women and getting more involved in putting an end to gender violence. I volunteered in a domestic violence shelter over the summer of 2007, and I hope to do similar work in the future.

I will be studying abroad in Fortaleza, Brazil in the spring of 2008 and I will be receiving Women and Gender Studies credit for my time there. I hope to study domestic violence while I am abroad and bring my work back to WashU so that I can pursue an Honors Thesis on the issue.
